Towards the Hansa Energy Transition Campus
Coordinators:
Dr.-Ing. Alexandra Pehlken (COAST, Oldenburg University)
Marius Buchmann, M.A. (Bremer Energie Institut, Jacobs University)
The topic “Energy” affects universities in at least two ways:
Energy efficiency, renewable energies and sustainability are the new paradigms of education. Uni-versities not only need to equip students with knowledge about energy and its conversion, but also need to develop a stimulating environment for future experts to learn about the concepts of effi-ciency and sustainability and ways to address the future challenges of the energy transition.
On the other hand, energy efficiency offers the potential to reduce costs. The question is how to implement energy efficiency on campus and which technologies can be used at which site under which conditions. In addition, especially the potential of load shifting at universities might offer the potential for new business models.
With the surrounding energy systems changing and universities’ awareness of this issue growing, these two perspectives have increasingly gained in relevance over the past decade.
The workshop “Towards the Hansa Energy Transition Campus” on Friday, March 8th 2013 at Oldenburg University in Room A5-056 invites interested students and experts from university and industry to join this interdisciplinary discussion on energy efficiency in a campus environment.
